Chelsea player ratings vs Leeds: Cole Palmer changes the game but 4/10 star fails audition

Mike Penders: 6/10

Made a couple of good saves but had a couple of nervy moments between the sticks too. Mike Penders’ passing radar was off throughout the game too despite that being seen as a strength of his.

Josh Acheampong: 6/10

Transitioned from right-back to centre-back with ease, proving he can do both roles for Alonso where required this season.

Maxence Lacroix: 5/10

Was caught out for Leeds’ third goal by trying to engage high up the pitch. Arguably Maxence Lacroix’s weakest performance since joining the club.

Levi Colwill: 6/10

Worryingly for Chelsea fans, Levi Colwill did not look too much more comfortable playing in a back four than he has in a back three so far this season. Needs to find his best again soon.

Pep Chavarria: 7/10

Continued to look one of the brightest sparks of those who are pushing to break into the starting side. Pep Chavarria also won the penalty which Palmer converted when 2-0 down.

Malo Gusto: 4/10

The Malo Gusto in midfield experiment continues to throw up undesirable results, and he was rightfully replaced at the break. Alonso has work to do to find a more suitable long-term solution to their midfield woes.

Reggie Watson: 5/10

Looked as if the magnitude of the occasion of a Chelsea debut got the better of Reggie Watson. Not the performance he would have been hoping for after an impressive pre-season.

Valentin Barco: 7/10

Barco defied the boo boys in the second half, where he put in a far stronger performance after surviving the half-time changes.

Estevao Willian: 5/10

Wanted to get involved as much as possible and make a statement but very little came off for Estevao Willian. He will be disappointed to have been replaced at the break,

Jamie Gittens: 4/10

Jamie Gittens failed to make any form of impact in his first start of the season, being replaced at half-time. Chelsea fans will have to continue to wait for his career to kickstart at Stamford Bridge.

Danny Welbeck: 8/10

Two starts, three goals for Welbeck as a Chelsea player as he continued a strong start to life as a blue. Will have been delighted to see the influx of attacking talent join him for the second half.

Leeds couldn’t handle them 🔥

Reece James: 7/10

Brought security to the midfield where Gusto was unable to. Reece James proved you do not have to be a recognised midfielder to get the job done in there.

Pedro Neto: 8/10

Came on alongside the rest of Chelsea’s superstars, and proved why he was in that group with a lovely finish to give the Blues the lead.

Cole Palmer: 9/10

Took just seven minutes to find the net after coming on, and within two minutes he had another. An incredible footballer who turned the game on its head in the blink of an eye.

Morgan Rogers: 9/10

Morgan Rogers picked up three assists in 10 minutes as Chelsea ran rampant in the second half. Their record signing has settled into life at Stamford Bridge with ease.
