Pedro Neto jokes he now cares about Chelsea’s defensive record as a wing-back

In a post-match interview with Sky Sports, Neto claimed that he does not like to concede that many goals in a single game, much to the surprise of his former teammate Conor Coady, who was sat in the Sky Sports studio.

Coady, who played alongside Neto at Wolverhampton Wanderers, asked the Portuguese when has he ever cared about shipping in goals. In response, Neto said: “Now that I am a wing-back, lad!”

Alonso will be glad Chelsea kept hold of Neto and will be pleased to see him embracing his new role.

Neto was a target for several clubs in the summer, and while the Portugal international is not one of Chelsea’s untouchables, they did not want to lose him.

Retaining Neto’s services is now starting to look like a really good decision as he continues to make an impact on the pitch under Alonso.

In Neto and Marco Palestra, Chelsea could have two really good right wing-back options this season. And if there are no concerns about Reece James’ hamstrings, it is a position that the Chelsea captain could also play in.
