What Cole Palmer did vs Hull is very encouraging for the rest of Chelsea’s season

Cole Palmer created several chances against Hull’s low block

Chelsea went into the game knowing that Hull had not conceded a goal in the Premier League yet. They also would have been fully aware of the Tigers’ plan to play in a low block, which is what most visitors to Stamford Bridge do.

The Blues can find low blocks difficult to break down, but that was not the case on Saturday, largely thanks to Palmer.

It took Morgan Rogers just seven minutes to breach Hull’s defence and fire past goalkeeper Konstantinos Tzolakis.

As already mentioned, it was Palmer who set up Pedro for Chelsea’s second, but the 24-year-old also created two big chances and made three key passes, according to Sofascore.

It is very promising, given how solid Hull’s defence has been this season and the fact that Chelsea will have to face more low blocks as the campaign goes on.

Jakirovic thought Emiliano Martinez was Chelsea’s best player, but many will feel that it was Palmer.

In attack, Palmer and the rest of Chelsea’s frontline have had no problems this term. Rather, the area that Alonso needs to address is defence.

Before their 2-2 draw with Hull, Chelsea beat Leeds United 6-3 in the third round of the Carabao Cup. It was an entertaining game, but the Blues are clearly conceding too many chances and goals right now.
