Roma rejected big-money offer for Manu Kone from Chelsea

Chelsea were also reportedly close to signing Kone from AS Roma, but how close remains to be seen.

According to Tuttomercatoweb, Roma resisted a €60m (£51.4m) offer for Kone from Chelsea when the transfer market was still open.

Like in Monaco’s case, perhaps Roma were open to selling Kone at one point, hence the reports about Chelsea nearly signing him.

It was even claimed that Kone had agreed personal terms with Chelsea. In the end, though, the Frenchman remained at the Stadio Olimpico, while Chelsea failed to sign anyone to replace Enzo Fernandez.

It has left them short in midfield, with Moises Caicedo and Jordan Henderson both currently out injured. In Caicedo’s absence, Chelsea’s midfield has just not managed to cope.

Manu Kone should now be above Lamine Camara on Chelsea’s shortlist

Chelsea seemed to pivot between Kone and Camara in the final hours of the transfer window. It is not quite clear who was their priority at first, but what is now clear is Kone should be above Camara on Chelsea’s shortlist.

After everything that happened on deadline day, Chelsea should not be doing business with Monaco.

Even if they still want to sign Camara, it looks like that will be difficult. According to the reliable Fabrizio Romano, Chelsea’s relationship with Monaco has been completely shattered.

Time heals, but not necessarily in the business world. You would not blame Chelsea’s owners if they decided not to do business with Monaco again and prioritised the likes of Kone and Alex Scott over Camara.
