Speaking on Match of the Day, the former Tottenham manager predicted Delap to score between 12 and 15 Premier League goals this season – if the striker can remain fit throughout the entirety of the season.

“I think he is a very good signing for Nottingham Forest. Oliver Glasner has played a big role in getting him in. His goal is excellent, a brilliant strike, one of the more difficult goals to score,” Frank said.

“He has pace, power; his positioning in the box is also good. I really like Delap. If he is injury-free throughout the season, I’m very confident he will score a lot – 12 to 15 Premier League goals,” he added.

The real price Chelsea wanted for Liam Delap

When Chelsea cashed in on Delap, many felt the deal was one of the best sales Behdad Eghbali had agreed all summer. But actually, Chelsea wanted even more for the striker and agreed a cut-price fee.

Delap’s arrival at Chelsea was cheap, just £30m, due to a relegation release clause at Ipswich. The feeling was that Chelsea were signing a striker below his value at the time – meaning it had no future bearing.

Chelsea felt Delap was a £70m striker going into the summer window, and by selling at £50m, they did Forest a favour by cashing in on for £20m less. If he scores 15 goals, he will prove that £70m valuation.
