Chelsea’s valuation of Malo Gusto was ludicrous

One Chelsea star who is undoubtedly struggling at this moment in time is Malo Gusto. His performances are making the price tag his employers slapped on him laughable.

It was claimed that Chelsea wanted £75m for Gusto during the summer transfer window, a fee the 23-year-old was not worth and is still not worth, especially after his recent displays.

It is too much money for a full-back, and the likes of Manchester City, Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur, who were all interested in signing Gusto, will now be glad that they did not go near him at that price.

Gusto has arguably been the biggest underperformer in this Chelsea team under Alonso, with the Frenchman having another difficult afternoon against Hull.

His touches and passing have been sloppy, while this is not the defending supporters saw in his first season at the club.

Gusto is definitely not being helped by having to play in midfield. That is one experiment Alonso has to end!

Xabi Alonso should drop Malo Gusto for Brentford game

Chelsea have a really hard game against Brentford next. Alonso cannot afford to have any passengers in the team.

If Gusto starts in midfield at the Gtech Community Stadium, he could end up being just that.

With Moises Caicedo and Jordan Henderson injured, Alonso’s options are limited right now. Of course, he no longer has Enzo Fernandez to call upon either. However, the Spaniard does have his compatriot Valentin Barco, a natural midfielder who can do a much better job than Gusto in the middle.

All in all, Alonso needs to bench Gusto for a period, starting with next Friday’s west London derby.
