Lamine Camara rubs salt in BlueCo wounds on Saturday after Chelsea transfer failure
Lamine Camara was halfway through his Chelsea medical when Monaco pulled the plug on a £47m move to Stamford Bridge. Fast forward two weeks, and Camara has rubbed salt in BlueCo’s wounds.
The mayhem that was deadline day saw Chelsea cash in on Enzo Fernandez, but failed to replace the World Cup winner. Camara looked set to join, but Monaco transfer chief Thiago Scuro blocked a move.

Monaco needed a big sale, but the Ligue 1 side preferred to sell Folarin Balogun. It was believed Everton were set to sign Balogun, which convinced Scuro to block Camara’s move. Balogun then rejected Everton.
Now, Lamine Camara has rubbed salt in the wounds
The Senegal international has stayed in Monaco’s side, with Filipe Luis confident he is one of the best in the world. On Saturday, Camara and Monaco took on BlueCo’s other club, Strasbourg, in Ligue 1.
Strasbourg looked as though they were going to secure a 1-0 win over Monaco, who were top of the Ligue 1 table going into the clash. However, Camara had other ideas as Monaco secured a 1-1 draw.
His incisive pass found Paris Brunner, who smashed home a Monaco equaliser from the best part of 25 yards. It might not have been the best assist, but the fact that it was his assist will have been painful.
Meanwhile, Chelsea continue to lack a Camara in midfield
Back in London, Chelsea are still missing a midfield general. Moises Caicedo and Jordan Henderson are still injured, while on Saturday, Romeo Lavia and Reece James failed to show what they are capable of.
Indeed, Valentin Barco was better than Lavia when he came on – showing just what Chelsea lacked in the 20 minutes he was on the pitch compared to a passive Lavia throughout the initial 70 minutes.

Caicedo is closing in on a return, and that will significantly boost Chelsea’s midfield. Alonso started off slowly as Leverkusen manager, and the Blues squad is still getting to grips with his demands and tactics.
But if Alonso had a Camara at his disposal, things would be a whole lot easier for the Spanish gaffer. Instead, he is already having to deal with a midfield crisis. Come January, expect another Chelsea bid.
