Mykhailo Mudryk stepped back onto the pitch for Chelsea during a 1–0 pre-season defeat against Juventus in Hong Kong, entering as an 82nd-minute substitute.
The brief appearance capped off a long journey back after being sidelined since November 2024, with the opportunity to kick on now in Xabi Alonso’s squad.
However, his immediate future is still undecided, with clubs like Coventry City offering to take Mudryk on loan for the Premier League season.
Nonetheless, a first glimpse of the Ukrainian in action has excited fans.
Thoughts after another pre-season defeat under Xabi Alonso?🤔
Despite only playing minimal minutes, the national media generally gave a positive reaction to Mudryk’s performance, highlighting the reception he received from everyone at the ground.
The Sun – 6: “Came on to a heroes welcome in Hong Kong, and showed some exciting glimpses of his talent in very limited minutes. A cross from the byline was saved by the Juventus stopper, with some flashes of his electric pace still evident.”
Daily Mirror – 6: “Barely touched the ball after coming on for a 10-minute cameo, his first football for Chelsea in 20 months.”
The Standard – 6: “Back after 20 months out having now resolved his anti-doping disciplinary proceedings with the FA, Mudryk was given a warm welcome as he entered the pitch late on. Was bright without creating a great deal.”
However, the real challenge for Mudryk comes in a more competitive environment, where the level will raise and provide a real challenge of his fitness.
