Chelsea want a tiny £3m fee for Xabi Alonso outcast, but BlueCo would still break even
Chelsea are closing in on a sixth summer sale as Trevoh Chalobah edges towards a permanent £31m move to Como. But plenty more are required to balance the books.
Marc Cucurella, Andrey Santos, Tyrique George and Jimmy-Jay Morgan have been sold this summer. Including add-ons, Chelsea can expect to receive around £127m for those four permanent departures.

Alejandro Garnacho has joined Villa on loan, but with an easily met conditional obligation worth £43m. That fee will be received next summer, but Garnacho has pretty much left Chelsea for good, already.
Chalobah’s fee takes Chelsea to £160m from player sales this summer. But the Blues have spent a huge £335m on signings, both pre-agreed or since Xabi Alonso was hired. Ultimately, more sales are needed.
Chelsea set to cash in on striker for a bargain £3m fee
Five players joined Chelsea from Strasbourg this summer. Three loanees returned, in Aaron Anselmino, Mike Penders and David Fofana. Valentin Barco and Emmanuel Emegha have both signed for Chelsea.
But it is one of those that Chelsea are now planning to sell for just £3m. The loan to Strasbourg was the fifth temporary move away from Chelsea for Fofana since he joined the club during the 22-23 season.
In nine appearances, Fofana failed to score for Strasbourg and now returns to Chelsea where he still has a contract until the summer of 2029. His last outing for Chelsea came in May 2023 against Man United.
A permanent exit is on the cards and will have been for a while. The Ivory Coast international has been left out of the trip to Asia by Xabi Alonso, and now The Mirror claim he can leave for a bargain £3m.
Why £3m for David Fofana sees Chelsea break even
When the Blues signed Fofana from Molde back in January 2023, there was plenty of hype. BlueCo showed they could break transfer records but also prioritise youth with the £10m addition of Fofana.

Amortisation only stretches five years these days, a rule changed largely because of enormous deals handed to the likes of Fofana to reduce the book fee. Fofana is three and a half years into that fee.
With each year costing Chelsea £2m, Fofana is £7m through his Chelsea contract. That means a £3m fee would see Chelsea break even in the eyes of Financial Fairplay, even though it’s less than what they paid.
