Xabi Alonso has proven to be ruthless over the last few days, clearly having a say when it came to his best Chelsea players representing their countries. The Blues have had some injury issues.

Reece James and Moises Caicedo were not called up by England and Ecuador due to their injuries, while Marco Palestra has not been included by Italy despite Roberto Mancini’s wishes to include the defender.

Cole Palmer and Joao Pedro were called up by Thomas Tuchel and Carlo Ancelotti, only to withdraw from the squad. Palmer is said to be disappointed by the decision after picking up a supposed muscle injury.

Injured players are returning – including a forgotten signing

When Chelsea take on Bournemouth on October 10, it is believed that Pedro, Palestra, James, Palmer and Caicedo will all be available for selection. Caicedo’s return is huge, having only played once this season.

But there is another player also closing in on a return. According to Football London, striker Emmanuel Emegha is nearing a return after picking up a muscle issue during pre-season, ruling him out of the tour.

Emegha has endured a difficult start to his Chelsea spell, but finally, the Dutchman is closing in on a return from injury. The chances are he will return as the club’s third-choice striker, but at least he is fit.

Emegha finds his future at Chelsea under the microscope

Bought by Chelsea from Strasbourg before Alonso’s arrival for a fee expected to be in the region of about £21m, Emegha’s exit from the French club was a cause for concern for Chelsea fans ahead of his arrival.

In the summer, there were reports that Emegha could actually leave Chelsea without playing once for the Blues competitively. That has not materialised, even though Serie A side Fiorentina were interested.

How many goals will Emanuel Emegha score for Chelsea next season?

But upon his return from injury, Emegha will find himself behind Pedro and Danny Welbeck in the pecking order. With Pedro expected to be fit after dropping out from Brazil’s squad, Emegha will be third choice.

The chances are Emegha is going to struggle to get any game time over the next few months. Do not be surprised that come January, Emegha may find himself leaving Chelsea on loan without playing much.
