In an ideal world for Chelsea, they would sign Alex Scott from Bournemouth in January.

Chelsea spent some of the summer chasing the midfielder but could not agree a deal with Bournemouth. They are still interested in him, but a transfer at the start of the year could be difficult.

Bournemouth could demand over £100m for Scott, and that is if they decide he can go. There has been talk about the Cherries offering Scott a new contract, which could have a release clause in it.

Ultimately, if Chelsea want to sign a midfielder in January, they may have to turn to an alternative.

How Lucas Da Cunha compares to Alex Scott

One alternative Chelsea could turn to is Como’s Lucas Da Cunha, who is thriving under Cesc Fabregas. According to TEAMtalk, Chelsea and several other clubs from the Premier League are interested in the 25-year-old.

Da Cunha has made a solid start to the season and recently earned his first cap for France. The Como star ticks a lot of boxes, but how do his stats stack up against Scott’s?

Well, this season, Da Cunha has yet to score a league goal after making five appearances, whereas Scott has. However, his passing does seem to be better, although that could be down to playing in Fabregas’ possession-oriented system. In any case, the numbers are the numbers.

According to FotMob, Da Cunha completes 76.33 passes per 90 minutes and has a pass completion rate of 94%. Scott only completes 41.17 passes and has an inferior pass completion rate of 81.6%.

Da Cunha also creates more chances per 90 minutes. He has an average of 2.85 compared to Scott’s 2.22. Defensively, he edges the England international when it comes to tackles.

Player Games Minutes Goals Assists Passes per 90 Pass success rate Chances created per 90 Tackles per 90
Lucas Da Cunha 5 316 0 0 76.33 94% 2.85 2.28
Alex Scott 5 446 1 0 41.17 81.6% 2.22 1.82

When you look at the nature of Chelsea’s matches this season, they need a controller. Their matches have practically been NBA games.

With that in mind, Spain duo Martin Zubimendi and Fabian Ruiz, who attracted interest from Chelsea in the summer, are also suitable targets. But Da Cunha and Scott seem more attainable.
