Cucurella was asked what the biggest difference was between now and when he was at Stamford Bridge, and he quickly replied explaining how he is recognised everywhere he goes now, which didn’t happen in London.

He told El Larguero: “Quite a lot, really. I remember one day I went downtown and there were people there waiting for me who had recognised my car and such, and I was like, ‘Oh my gosh, I didn’t expect that. I didn’t expect that.’ They said, “No, it’s just that we know what kind of car you have.

“And I said, ‘That’s unbelievable’, but anyway, in the end, whenever I can, I try to give them their moment or their minute or whatever they ask me for because in the end, I understand it.”

Cucurella’s exit, alongside Enzo Fernandez walking out on Chelsea too created fears over what was awaiting Xabi Alonso when he took over at Stamford Bridge.

Alonso wanted Cucurella to stay, however his mind was made up, and the boss was forced to look back into the transfer market to find a replacement for him.

He landed on Pep Chavarria, who despite joining from Rayo Vallecano with very little fanfare, has enjoyed a strong start to life at Stamford Bridge.

The left-back earned his first start of the season against Brentford, and was Chelsea’s most impressive player despite the 3-0 defeat.

Chavarria shows a lot of the traits which Cucurella excelled at during his time at Chelsea. He is very aggressive in the tackle and is always willing to get involved in the attack too.
