Chelsea must hijack Liverpool’s move for €100m Real Madrid star
The whole football world knows Chelsea need to sign a new midfielder next year.
The Blues sold Enzo Fernandez on deadline day and never replaced him and their deal for AS Monaco’s Lamine Camara fell through. With Moises Caicedo also out injured, Xabi Alonso has been forced to play right-backs Reece James and Malo Gusto in midfield.
It has not worked, and Chelsea have clearly acknowledged that as they refuse to give up on their pursuit of Bournemouth’s Alex Scott. However, a Real Madrid star should be the Blues’ priority heading into 2027.

Chelsea should attempt to hijack Liverpool’s potential move for Aurelien Tchouameni
Chelsea have been linked with Aurelien Tchouameni in the past, but there is now talk about Liverpool making a swoop for the 26-year-old. According to TEAMtalk, the Reds are still in communication with Tchouameni’s camp despite the Frenchman agreeing a new contract with Real Madrid.
If there is any chance of Real Madrid selling Tchouameni, Chelsea have to put themselves in the race against Liverpool or any other potential suitors for his signature. Xabi Alonso is in desperate need of a new midfielder, and Tchouameni is one of the best around.
He ticks every box and could be the perfect partner for Caicedo in the middle of the park. Real Madrid bought Tchouameni for €100m, so they would likely demand a very large fee for him, especially after his new contract.
The France international could be worth every penny and would be a significant upgrade on everything Chelsea have got, bar Caicedo.
How Aurelien Tchouameni and Moises Caicedo compare
While most Chelsea fans, if not all, would argue that Caicedo is better than Tchouameni, their playing styles are similar. Both midfielders are capable ball-winners, though the former does edge out the latter statistically.
According to WhoScored, Tchouameni made 2.1 tackles and 1.4 interceptions per game in La Liga last season. Caicedo made 2.6 and 1.8 respectively in the Premier League. Their passing was also quite similar.

While it seems unlikely for now, if Chelsea do go on to sign Tchouameni, former Blue Claude Makelele will be delighted. Back in the summer, Makelele chose Tchouameni over Rodri when asked to pick between the two.
