Chelsea made wholesale changes to the goalkeeping position over the summer, however one of the players they let leave on loan is proving they may have made a mistake.

The Blues currently have Emi Martinez between the sticks after electing to bring him to the club after the Premier League season had already began,

This followed Robert Sanchez starting the first game of the season against Fulham, although a couple of mistakes in that game saw Xabi Alonso make a ruthless decision.

Filip Jorgensen is the highest-rated goalkeeper this season

Before the Spaniard’s eventual exit to Como, Filip Jorgensen had already completed his own move to Strasbourg on loan, where he has finally received his wish of playing regular minutes for a side in the top five leagues of European football.

The Dane has struggled to keep the goals out when playing in Ligue 1. After five games, Strasbourg have conceded 10 goals this season, a defensive record not too far off Chelsea’s shambolic start.

However, similarly to at Stamford Bridge, this does not seem to have been the fault of the goalkeeper. In fact, according to Gradient Sports‘ grading scale, Jorgensen is actually the highest-rated player in his position so far this season.

You can have TWO Man City players, who are you picking and why? 👀

Imagine if Man City actually get relegated 😳

He is joined in the Best XI of the campaign by the likes of Lamine Yamal, Marc Guehi and Jude Bellingham, who have all enjoyed fine starts to the season themselves.

While very few Chelsea fans will be pushing for Jorgensen to return as the number one at Stamford Bridge, they will certainly have been underwhelmed by the impact Martinez has had since he made his move from Aston Villa.

The Argentine picked up a much-needed clean sheet during the international break, as he looks to register the first one for Chelsea in the Premier League since Liam Rosenior’s first game in charge.

Their next opportunity to achieve this feat will come when they host Bournemouth at Stamford Bridge, with them also looking to put an end to a run of three consecutive games without a victory in the league.
