Cesc Fabregas’ Como really appear to have caught Chelsea’s attention as they continue to be linked with several players from the Italian club.

The latest is Lucas Da Cunha. Chelsea are interested in both Da Cunha and Alex Scott after selling Enzo Fernandez on deadline day.

The Blues are short in midfield right now because of Fernandez’s departure and Moises Caicedo’s injury. As well as Da Cunha, Chelsea are also thought to be keen on Jacobo Ramon.

You can have TWO Man City players, who are you picking and why? 👀

Imagine if Man City actually get relegated 😳

Cesc Fabregas doubted whether Jacobo Ramon had the physicality to play in Italy

Fabregas will not want to lose Ramon, who is attracting interest from Chelsea ahead of the January transfer window. The Como manager is a big fan of Ramon, and his compatriot is thriving right now.

However, Fabregas has admitted that he did have one concern when Como signed the central defender: whether he was physical enough to play in Serie A.

“The only doubt we had was about his ability to compete in Italian football, which is full of duels, and how he would adapt to such a physical game,” the former Chelsea midfielder was quoted as saying by La Gazzetta dello Sport. “He has improved tremendously; he’s a player made of different stuff.”

You can understand why Chelsea would move for a new centre-half in 2027. The Blues spent big money on Maxence Lacroix in the summer, but defensively they have still been poor this season.

In fact, Chelsea have conceded more goals than any other side in the Premier League. WhoScored has identified defending set pieces and counter-attacks as two of Chelsea’s biggest weaknesses.

Considering that, regardless of how good Ramon is, it is very unlikely that the addition of one centre-back is going to solve all of Chelsea’s defensive issues. And waiting until January is just not a viable option anyway. There are far too many games between now and then.

Ultimately, there is a structural issue that Xabi Alonso must address as soon as all of his players return from international duty. Chelsea’s games have been too end-to-end this term, and that has to change when club football resumes.
