Three years ago, Chelsea made a bold move and splashed £40m to sign Cole Palmer from Man City. Since then, Palmer has become one of Chelsea’s modern-day icons; Sergio Agüero has had his say.

Palmer is back to his best, having a hand in six goals already this season. He might have pulled out of the England squad, but Palmer is thriving again. Xabi Alonso’s guidance is clearly helping the Blues ace.

The hope is that Palmer can rediscover his early Chelsea form this season, having overcome a niggling groin injury that hampered his form last term. If Chelsea are to have any success, Palmer needs to be fit.

Sergio Aguero played alongside Cole Palmer at Man City

Palmer and Aguero never actually played alongside each other in a City shirt. However, they crossed paths as Aguero’s time in a City shirt came to an end, and Palmer was suddenly a part of first-team training.

Quoted by Goal, City legend Aguero shares how he recalls Palmer’s situation at City. He believes that he was good enough to play for City, but had too much competition ahead of him. It’s why he left City.

Which former Chelsea player would you add to the current team, and why? 🤔

You can choose anyone!

“Chelsea are dangerous. I played with Cole Palmer; I love him as a player, he’s spectacular. When I was there [at City], he didn’t have many opportunities because many top-level players were also in good form.

“Moving to Chelsea has worked well because he needed to play. In my opinion, he’s Chelsea’s best player today. He can score or provide an assist at any moment and make the difference,” Aguero explained.

Is Cole Palmer the best signing of the entire BlueCo era?

Todd Boehly and Mark Walter have left the club in the past few weeks, and their ownership was marred by mistakes – not only in the transfer market. But they made some good signings too, and Palmer is one.

There have been some wonderful additions. Joao Pedro, Moises Caicedo, Enzo Fernandez, and plenty of others. But Palmer was signed for a smaller fee than any of those players and is worth a whole lot more.

In the summer, Chelsea put a £150m price tag on Palmer. If he was sold, that would have been more than £100m of profit. That makes him the best signing BlueCo made during their reign as Chelsea owners.
