Geovany Quenda was one player who impressed for Chelsea during their pre-season tour during the summer.

The 19-year-old, who officially joined Chelsea from Sporting in the last transfer window, looked dangerous down the flank. However, he has barely played in the current Premier League campaign.

In total, Quenda has made two appearances and played less than 30 minutes. He is yet to start for the Blues, not even in the Carabao Cup. In fact, the winger has not featured in that competition yet.

Quenda has not thrown his toys out of the pram, though, acknowledging that Chelsea have great players in his position and that he cannot do much to change his situation.

Which former Chelsea player would you add to the current team, and why? 🤔

You can choose anyone!

Speaking ahead of Portugal Under-21s’ match against the Czech Republic on Tuesday, he said via Maisfutebol: “There’s nothing I can do about what I can’t control, but I always give my best to try and play, and obviously there are great players at the club. And those are the manager’s decisions; I just have to keep giving my all.”

What Quenda still has going for him is his versatility. The former Sporting star can play as a left winger, right winger or wing-back. That versatility could help him earn some minutes later in the season when Chelsea start to pick up injuries, which always seem inevitable with the Blues.

Sources close to Quenda do not seem to be too worried about his situation, adamant that he is still going through an adaptation period at Chelsea. The Portugal Under-21 international will be hoping for some action when the Premier League returns this weekend, though.

Chelsea take on Bournemouth at Stamford Bridge, hoping to bounce back from their humiliating 3-0 defeat to Brentford just before the international break. In a boost for Xabi Alonso, several Chelsea players could return from injury, including Moises Caicedo. His absence has been a real blow for the team.

Alonso will be expected to continue with his attack of Cole Palmer, Morgan Rogers and Joao Pedro if Pedro recovers from his own injury in time. It would see Quenda start on the bench again unless Alonso decides to use him at wing-back.
