Another Chelsea star now considering his future alongside Estevao, Tottenham have held talks
Without European football, Xabi Alonso had to reduce the size of his Chelsea squad in the summer. But the Spaniard’s squad is still a big one, and it is causing frustration for those not getting game time.
Already this season, reports have suggested Estevao is frustrated at Chelsea. The Brazilian is unwilling to change position and is concerned he will struggle to fit into Alonso’s system, with Barcelona looking on.
Estevao’s stance is understandable. This is a player with supreme talent and the backing of Carlo Ancelotti while with Brazil. On Saturday, he got six minutes. Now, another Chelsea player is weighing up his future.
Malo Gusto is considering his future under Xabi Alonso
According to Sky Sports, Malo Gusto is now weighing up his future at Stamford Bridge. The right-back has started five of Chelsea’s eight games this season in all competitions, offering versatility in midfield.
But Gusto has lost his place in the France side and was hooked at half-time against Leeds. In the last two games, Gusto was unused at Brentford and came on in the 88th minute of the win against Bournemouth.
What is a fair price for Malo Gusto? 💸
BlueCo are proving stubborn.
He got a bit of game time early on this season, being used in midfield with Jordan Henderson and Moises Caicedo injured. But now, Caicedo and Marco Palestra are back, while Reece James is close to a return.
Whether it be wing-back or in midfield, Gusto has fallen down the pecking order. The report indicates that Gusto is happy at Chelsea, but if his game time continues to worsen, he will consider leaving Chelsea.
The report says Chelsea could even consider reducing the £75m price tag slapped on his head in the summer, amid interest from Enzo Maresca’s Man City. Right now, Gusto wants assurances of his role.
The clubs that joined City in pursuing Gusto in the summer
Of course, Gusto was not the only Chelsea player linked with following Maresca to the Etihad in the summer. Enzo Fernandez has ended up at City, while Pedro Neto and plenty of others were linked.
According to the report, Atlético Madrid looked at signing Gusto. Bayern Munich, Juventus, Tottenham, and Paris Saint-Germain were also in contact with the right-back’s representatives over a possible move.
Clearly, if Chelsea do decide to sell Gusto and reduce their asking price for the ex-Lyon man, then there will be interest in his services. For now, a decision has not been made, but he is considering an exit.
