Club sources have spoken to The Athletic about how Alonso and his staff are setting such a high standard among the group.

According to the outlet, after training or a match, Alonso would be seen on the team coach already analysing clips from the session or pre-season friendly.

The Spaniard is not wasting any time, and the club need a manager like that after such a poor 2025/26 campaign.

Last term, Chelsea finished in 10th place in the Premier League table and failed to qualify for the Champions League. They also failed to win any silverware.

Of course, Alonso’s arrival alone was never going to be enough to get Chelsea back to where they want to be, and the club recognised that.

The Club World Cup holders have been extremely busy in the transfer window, bringing in Morgan Rogers, Maxence Lacroix, Danny Welbeck and Jordan Henderson. They have also signed Geovany Quenda and Emmanuel Emegha after pre-arranging their transfers last year.

Alonso now needs to make an impact on the pitch in the Premier League when it returns later this month, and he could do so using a 4-3-2-1 or 3-4-2-1 formation.

The former Real Madrid and Bayer Leverkusen boss tested both in pre-season, so it looks as though he will be flexible once the new campaign begins. All eyes will be on Craven Cottage when Chelsea face their west London rivals Fulham in their opener!
