Ashley Young claims Chelsea have made an ‘11/10’ signing this summer
It is fair to say that former England footballer Ashley Young is really impressed with one particular piece of business Chelsea have done in this transfer window.
As they so often do, Chelsea have dominated the headlines this summer after signing Morgan Rogers from Aston Villa for a club-record £117m fee.
Their decision to bring in Danny Welbeck and Jordan Henderson has also caused a lot of debate, with both players now in their mid-30s.

Ashley Young gives Danny Welbeck an 11 out of 10
While some have questioned Chelsea for signing Welbeck and Henderson, Young has backed their decision to add the former to their squad.
In a video posted by TSR Football on TikTok, Young was asked to rate Welbeck’s move to Chelsea out of 10. In response, the ex-winger said: “11 out of 10. I didn’t want him to go Chelsea, of course, but he’s one of my best mates in football. I’m delighted for him, a lot will be spoken about his age, but if you can get up and down the pitch, age means nothing.
“I’m delighted for him. I know he’s going to go there and do well. A lot will be said about him leaving Brighton, but I’m sure he’ll say the reasons he left and it will be justified as well.”
John Terry gave his own reaction to Chelsea signing Welbeck, joking that the 35-year-old will not be able to score against the Blues any more.
Welbeck has a good recent record against Chelsea, netting in both of Brighton & Hove Albion’s games versus the Club World Cup holders last season.
With Joao Pedro being the first-choice striker, Welbeck will not be expected to start too many matches in the new campaign. However, he could still prove to be a good addition to Xabi Alonso’s squad.

We are giving Welbeck a solid 7/10. Despite what some critics have to say, it is a smart signing.
Welbeck cost very little and is going to add some much-needed experience to the squad. Most importantly, though, he still has something to offer on the pitch.
In total, the former England star scored 13 goals in 37 Premier League outings last term. That is more than what Cole Palmer managed!
Welbeck is far from finished and could be a very important squad player for Alonso in the new season. The same goes for Henderson, who should also be a positive influence inside the dressing room.
