Chelsea striker Joao Pedro has proven to be one of the most popular members of the first team squad, and has already formed a strong bond with one of their new signings.

Pedro’s excellent performances since joining the club in the summer of 2025 have seen him instantly earn the respect of his peers.

The most recent recognition of his abilities has seen Pedro named the Premier League Player of the Month for August, only the second Blue to claim the award since Eden Hazard.

Joao Pedro already has great relationship with Danny Welbeck

The Brazilian is clearly the first choice for the striker position at Stamford Bridge, although Danny Welbeck has come in and played the role of deputy perfectly.

The duo already have experience playing together from their time at Brighton, and Pedro has admitted to Sky Sports that it hasn’t taken long for them to rekindle their strong relationship.

He said: “Danny I told him already. For me it was very special because when I came to England I didn’t speak English and he tried to to help me to get more around the the guys and at Brighton as well.

“He always tried to to push me and here when he came and he said ‘Joao now you are at Chelsea but I’m still going to push you.’ I said no problem no problem. For me. Wow. He’s a top top player, top top guy, and I’m really happy to have him here.”

Welbeck is the perfect deputy for Pedro

Despite the fact he will have accepted he is not going to be first choice at Stamford Bridge, Welbeck is making the most of his minutes when given the chance in the EFL Cup.

The Englishman has three goals in two starts so far this season, including a brace in the thrilling 6-3 win over Leeds in the last round.

Pedro was clearly struggling with fatigue in the final few weeks of last season, with this a result of Liam Delap not being good enough to start any form of important game.

Things have changed with Welbeck in the squad though, and this is only going to be a positive for all parties at Chelsea this season.
