Jamie Vardy names the Chelsea player who was harder to play against than N’golo Kante

Chelsea started to turn the tide when they signed N’golo Kante, who Vardy frequently speaks highly of following their time playing together for the 2015/16 Leicester City side which won the league.

However, he didn’t name the Frenchman as his toughest opponent when facing against Chelsea, instead selecting former Blues striker Diego Costa as the hardest player he faced at Stamford Bridge.

He told ‘Jamie Vardy’s Having a Party’: “Costa. Yeah, it was that game I spoke about, I tracked back a bit, slid in, got the ball and got him. Turned to the ref and said ‘I got the ball,’ and he’s gone steaming in, squaring up and I’m barking at him, barking at him like a dog. He just didn’t move, I was like ‘happy days’ took a yellow and off I popped.”

“You speak to all speak to all the players that that were with especially that year like Wes Morgan always said he was he was like hard, but he was constantly winding him up moaning but again it’s just I think that’s his way of trying to get everything across just to take an advantage if he can get someone to react.”

Vardy is a big fan of the current Chelsea attack, saying already that he would love to play alongside Cole Palmer and Morgan Rogers due to the amount of chances they create for the striker.

It is perhaps even more impressive looking back on Costa’s tenure at Stamford Bridge when you take into account the relationship he had with manager Antonio Conte at the time. Costa refuses to say anything positive about Conte when looking back at his time at Chelsea, after he was forced out of the club after just a few seasons in West London.

The Spain international would face Leicester on six occasions, scoring twice and never ending up on the losing side despite Chelsea’s inconsistent form.
